Carlos Rojas

Bio

Statement

Carlos Rojas, a careful observer and a curious and insatiable collector, explored the local situation and the human condition from the standpoint of reason and aesthetic sensitivity.
At the beginning of the 50s, he began his journey with the nature drawings he did while he was a young student at the Augustinian priest seminary. By then, Rojas had understood that nature was the foundation of everything. Then came the influences of American Cubism, where Rojas experimented with the space he lived in through fragmentation and ended up with his first approach to formal art: Papeles pegados. With this series, Rojas explored the discontinuity of lines with materials such as oilcloth, plastic and colored paper. In the 60s, mathematics and geometry, the straight line, the synthesis of form and the exploration of materials became the pillar of his work.
